What’s in a Name

I will bow down toward Your Holy Temple and will praise Your Name for Your unfailing love and Your faithfulness, for You have so exalted Your solemn decree that it surpasses Your fame. ~ Psalm 138:2

According to Hebrew custom, the “name” of someone referred to his authority and reputation. The name of God refers to His authority and reputation, just as the name of Jesus refers to his authority and reputation. That is why today we pray in the “name” of Jesus Christ, i.e., we pray according to his authority (John 15:16) truthortradition.com
