“Come to Me for Rest!”

Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

A Little girls story. A little girl had been trying for months to learn the art of tying her shoes. She finally grasped the knack and was able to do it by herself. Her parents expected the child to be delighted, but were surprised by her disappointment. Her father asked why she was crying.

She sobbed, “I just learned how to tie my shoes.”
The man said, “That’s wonderful, Honey, but why are you crying?”
She replied, “Because now I’ll have to do it all by myself for the rest of my life.”

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on life?
Jesus says to us, “Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.
