The story goes like this, mom could not get her teenage son to keep his room clean. Dirty dishes and piles of clothing were constantly scattered about the room. She kept telling him that he would end up with mice.

She came upon this idea.

She purchased some black rice and scattered it about his room. When he discovered it she told him it was mouse droppings.

Needless-to-say, his room has been clean ever since.
