More insight from my trip: A common link to conflict and disaster

As our host speaker starting share about our covenant roots and tracing our history through God’s Word she made an interesting observation.  She said the most life changing decisions that led to destruction and life long curses came from the sin of bitterness, rejection, anger and jealousy.  Whether it was the implided or real the reation to the feeling of rejection from God or others.

Examples included : Eve,  Cain and Able, Ishmael and Issac, Jacob and Esau,  Saul and David, Joseph and his brothers.  In all these situations how different would things be if God’s command to love one another had prevailed or if the injured party would have repented and turned from their bad attitude.  I guess we will never know but why would you want to give place to any of these destructive behaviors in your life.  Put bitterness, rejection, anger, envy and jealousy  on your I WILL NOT DO list… I did!  Not that I don’t have to keep this promise in front of me but God gave us plenty of inspiring “warning” stories in His Word.

Scriptures on the dangers of Anger & Jealousy

  • A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (Proverbs 14:30)
  • If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. (James 3:14-15)
  • For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. (James 3:16)
  • Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. (I Peter 2:1)
  • Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when the splendor of his house increases; for he will take nothing with him when he dies, his splendor will not descend with him. (Psalm 49:16-17)
  • An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins. (Proverbs 29:22)
  • A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. (Proverbs 15:18)
  • Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared. (Proverbs 22:24-25)

Students Silent For Life: What does the red duct tape or armbands mean?

Over 4,000 women are emotionally damaged every day and over 4,000 children’s lives are ended early. On October 19th, people from all over this nation will give up their voices for a day in solidarity for these children. Red arm bands and duct tape will identify them as taking part in the Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity. They will carry fliers explaining why they are silent and educate others about the plight of the innocent children we are losing every day. Are you willing to give up your voice for a day for those who will never have a voice?  Pregnant? Need Help? Reach Out… LufkinNacogdoches
