Firework Safety

Firework Safety

I used to love fireworks but now I’m a dog owner and OLD LOL.  Fireworks keep me awake and freak out my dogs but why ruin every ones fun – be safe – be courteous 🙂 You would not want to celebrate the 4th of July in the Emergency Room!

  1. Follow the rules of your county and neighborhood.
  2. Never re-light a firework that does not go off.
  3. Keep water handy
  4. Do not let children handle fireworks
  5. Do not point fireworks in the direction of a person or building

Dog-Sharing, Will It Work?

Alison Griswold

Yes, 2017 is the year of the rooster, but in the sharing economy it’s also the year of the dog. Dog-sharing is the new hot thing in the sharing economy.

Dog-sharing, of course, is as much a misnomer as ride-sharing and home-sharing. These dogs aren’t being passed around for free. But there’s been a flurry of activity among startups that offer dog walking, dog watching, and other dog-related services. Dog-sitting platform Rover acquired dog-boarding company DogVacay in an all-stock deal at an undisclosed price. Wag, the self-declared “#1 Dog Walking and Dog Sitting App for Busy Dog Owners,” has reportedly raised $19 million from two rounds of funding over the last two years.

Dogs and God

So many choices…

  • I learned about Jesus from our dogs.
  • They constantly forgive me.
  • They treat me no different no matter how I treated them.

Pet Behavior

  • Forget Multitasking:When dogs have a job to do, they give it their undivided attention. It turns out people should probably do the same. Stanford researchers found that attention and memory suffer in those who juggle work, email, and web-surfing, compared to those who focus on one task at a time. Other studies suggest employees actually lose time when multitasking.
  • Take Naps: You won’t catch your pet going from dawn to dusk without any shut-eye.  There’s good evidence humans can benefit from catnaps, too. A study involving about 24,000 people indicates regular nappers are 37% less likely to die from heart disease than people who nap only occasionally. Short naps can also enhance alertness and job performance.
  • Cultivate Friendships: People are social animals, and friendships have measurable health benefits. Researchers in Australia followed 1,500 older people for 10 years. Those with the most friends were 22% less likely to die than those with the fewest friends.

Feeling Unimportant

It happens to most of us at some point in our life. The feeling that our existance doesn’t really matter or we aren’t any more special than the next person.  In  fact we often believe that others are far more important and talented than us.  We’ve been to a thousands services, seminars, retreats and group meetings and we’ve heard the statement at least twice that many times that  – YOU ARE IMPORTANT… GOD LOVES YOU… YOU ARE SPECIAL.  Yeah, yeah, Blah, Blah! Maybe we’re feeling good that day so we agree with those statements but, in our heart of hearts, we don’t really believe it or our actions would show it. We don’t want to be prideful so instead we go the opposite direction and insult God by denying His wisdom and brilliant creation.

Recently I attended a seminar and once again God used others to let me know He values me and others do, too.  I felt like the smallest, youngest and least experienced in the room.  I was surrounded by people who had accomplished great things and had years of higher education that exceeded the number of years I’ve even been alive. At the end of the evening several of these “brilliant” people came to talk to me about my life and found it inspiring and wonderful.  I know you probably think I should be over all that or maybe your asking the question of yourself, “How could someone like her feel that way?”

The answer is I’m just like you… I have dreams, disappointments, challenges, and obviously insecurities. I’m hoping as I share my very personal story that you will find out the same wonderful truth God is determined for me and you to learn. He loves you, He designed you for a UNIQUE purpose! Whether you believe it or not you are an inspiration to someone!  You have something to offer! You have value!

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 and “…you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NLT

Fact Check: Health Care Law and W-2 Forms. A listener e-mailed us yesterday and pointed out a contradiction in the statements we posted on the blog yesterday and suggested we check it out and make sure we had our facts straight.  So I did a little digging at  Here’s what I discovered… It’s true that the value of employer-paid health insurance will be added as an information item on W-2 forms. But contrary to this widely circulating chain e-mail, it definitely will not be considered taxable income. (

Your Faith Matters: Scientists See Connection Between Faith and Transplant Survival. The statistics suggest that the mortality rate for a liver transplant patient who does not believe in God is three times higher than for those who do. “This is a statistically significant difference,” said psychologist Franco Bonaguidi, who led the probe. Previous studies charting the effect of religion on health have suggested that faith tends to promote healthy lifestyles, for example discouraging tobacco, alcohol and sexual promiscuity. Belonging to a church or a religion can also help provide patients with a sense of purpose and a close support network, researchers have observed. (Christian Breaking News)
