Family Types

family cartoonFriday Good Friends talked about family “Cultures” like the Dreamers, the Engaged, the Faithful and the Detached.  Michelle had her own funny definitions – which one do you think best fits your family

The Active Family … Always at the ball park, football stadium/field, basketball courts or doing some kind of outdoor exercise.

The Talkers… If you attend a family event a by-stander could just sit back and laugh because they aren’t getting an opportunity to talk unless they interrupt or just jump in

The Quiet Family… Everybody goes with the flow and for the most part family events are smooth and uneventful.

The Pet Family… You have almost as many pets as family members or more

The Techies… Your house is technology driven at any given evening everybody in the  house is on an electronic device and often text or message a person in the next room

Low-Tech families… You avoid excessive technology and prefer more face time and family activities that require interaction

The Fast Food Family… You eat whatever is convenient and fast… you eat out several times a week

The Natural/Healthy Family… You rarely eat out – eat lots of fruits, veggies and homemade stuff.  You enjoy recycling and going green

I cried 3 times!  So many sweet animals waiting for a family and a home.  Small, big, medium and lots of different breeds.  If you are looking for a pet your local animal shelters are a great place to start.  They obviously have strays but they also have dogs whose owners couldn’t care for them or couldn’t keep them for some reasons some pure breeds some creative mixes.  They work hard to make they people friendly and pet friendly if you have other pets.  You can visit them in the meet and greet room! Other ways to help:

Ways you can help if you have time: Walk dogs, Play with cats, Clean cages and Bathe animals

Sales Tax Holiday: August 20 – 22, 2010 – Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 20, 21 and 22 – the state’s annual tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.

As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Backpacks under $100 and used by elementary and secondary students are also exempt.

Back To School: Backpack Safety (

Step 1: Choose Right. Choosing the right size backpack is the most important step to safe backpack use. Tip: Bring a friend to help you measure your backpack properly.
Step 2: Pack Right. The maximum weight of the loaded backpack should not exceed 15 % of your body weight, so pack only what is needed. Tip: If the backpack forces the wearer to move forward to carry, it’s overloaded.
Step 3: Lift Right. Face the Pack -Bend at the Knees – Use both hands and check the weight of the pack. – Lift with the legs – Apply one shoulder strap and then the other. Tip: Don’t sling the backpack onto one shoulder.
Step 4: Wear Right. Use both shoulder straps – snug, but not too tight. Tip: When the backpack has a waist strap – use it.
