Power Thoughts

  • “The best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book.”  ~Author Unknown
  • The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called “truth.”  ~Dan Rather
  • “A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.”  ~Author Unknown

Facebook question? Did you have a teacher that changed your life if so what grade and how?

Pray for a Family: A school & two communities and a family mourn after a Corrigan teacher is killed by a suspected drunk driver – The halls are quiet, the door is locked, school is in session at Corrigan-Camden Junior High, but there’s a void there that Connie Mckay once filled. From letters on her door to posts on her Facebook page, Mckay’s influence went beyond her seventh grade reading classroom.

“It’s going to be hard,” said Corrigan-Camden Junior High Principal Robert Elliott as he held back tears. “It’s going to be hard for a while, but I keep going back to her family. I’m a husband and I’m a father and I can’t imagine.” Elliott said McKay was often one of the first ones at school in the morning getting ready to teach.

“The best compliment you can give somebody is that they made a difference and she made a difference every day,” said Elliott. “She made a difference with the teachers and staff here and she made a difference with the students she had.”   “She had a genuine concern for these other teachers and staff and for her students,” said Elliott. “She knew every student, seventh, eighth grade, she knew every one of them. She knew what they were doing and what they were capable of doing.”  Mckay was dedicated to her profession and to the lives she taught. Now, they work to keep her memory alive.

Funeral services for Connie Renee McKay, of Lufkin, will be held today at 10 a.m., Lufkin’s First Assembly.

Encountering Fear – Countering Fear

road-less-traveledMichelle and I have discover that there are times when life, work, or home life really getting us going … We look back at period of time … Day, Week, etc., and discover it was hectic, frustrating, and down right  tiring!

Even fearful that we won’t finish something important, miss the mark, or just be afraid!

Yet at the same time that same period of time was full of laughter, fun, and no stress. So what was the difference? What made the difference in the two time frames? Has this ever happen to you?

You wake up early this morning … really early … and that usually means “time to talk to God.” He has something to tell you. You resist going back to sleep … BUT, to your joy … It wasn’t in vain … (Funny it rarely is when God is involved.)

Here’s what I discovered … reading an excerpt of a book by Henry Wright … and then diving into the Word … see what you think? … Continue reading
